Bluejay baseball blanked in consecutive contests

Offense remains at a premium for the young Perry baseball team after the Bluejays were shut out in a pair of Raccoon River Conference games Wednesday and Thursday.

Visiting ADM was a 14-0 winner at Progressive Field in five innings Thursday. The loss for Perry followed a 10-0 setback, in five frames, at Boone Wednesday.

ADM scored four times in the top of the second Thursday, then set the early finish in motion with a 10-run third inning.

Perry managed just one base runner, with Carter Iben swatting a single.

Kaelen Davis went 2-1/3 innings, allowing eight runs on six hits, with Dalton Scott yielding six runs (four earned) on two hits. Drake Levan allowed one hit and hit one batter while striking out two and allowing two hits in two innings of relief. Davis and Scott issued four walks apiece.

Tate Stine-Smith allowed a hit and fanned six in three frames for the Tigers, with Lucas Curry striking out five in two stanzas.

Stine-Smith, Luke Greth, Cole Williamson, and Christian Madison had two hits apiece for the guests, who were a combined 9-for-9 on stolen base attempts.

Boone scored four runs in each of the first two frames to set the tone in Wednesday’s RRC game.

Parker Newcomb pitched a no-hitter, striking out eight and issuing only a walk to Gavin Hegstrom. He was aided by Morgan Smith, who drove in five runs.

Caden Steva was assessed eight runs (five earned) on three hits and six walks while striking out three in 1-2/3 innings. Fausto Beato went two innings, striking out one, hitting one batter, walking three and allowing a run while Davis went one inning, allowing a run on a hit.
