Bryce Pierce enters his second year as head coach of the Perry football team and will lead his Bluejays onto Dewey Field for the first time this year when Ogden visits tonight.

Perry returns a large portion of the roster that struggled through a winless 2020 campaign. Now with experience back in almost all positions, hopes are high that the team can find their way to a series of victories.

Quarterbacks Jeremiah Creegen and Jeremiah Baker return, as does leading receiver Cayden Widen and top rusher Abe Ruiz. Many returning starters will take to the grid on the defensive side of the ball as well.

Perry has moved to Class 4A District 5, as the IHSAA reorganized during the offseason, creating a new 5A, which caused reshuffling for many schools.

Perry visits Greene County Sept. 3 for the annual Cowbell Game and then will have an early Homecoming when Class 2A Clarke visits Sept. 10. A Sept. 17 trip to Des Moines Hoover ends the non-district portion of the schedule.

District play begins at Indianola Sept. 24, with Bondurant-Farrar and Norwalk coming to Dewey Field Oct. 1 and Oct. 8, respectively. The regular season ends with visits to Boone Oct. 15 and to Carlisle Oct. 22.
