POLK CITY – A boil advisory has been issued for the beach area at Big Creek State Park near Polk City following a water main break on Friday, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has announced.
A water main break can cause the system to lose pressure, creating a potential for bacteria to get into the system. The DNR said the boil advisory will remain in effect until two sets of bacteria samples have been completed to determine the water is safe.
Due to the potential for bacterial contamination, water should be boiled before use for drinking or cooking, or an alternative source, such as bottled water, be used until further notice, the DNR said.
