PANORA — Game two of a scheduled doubleheader June 15 was postponed by lightning and resumed Wednesday in exactly the same position the game was stopped.

Woodward-Granger, trailing host Panorama, 3-1, had runners on second and third with no one out and Kayley Dresback batting with a 2-0 count.

The Hawks (14-17, 9-5), who were the home team on the scoreboard for game two, plated four runs when play resumed to grab a 4-3 lead. Panorama had scored with a two-run Kennedy Andersen home run in the first and a solo home run from Kellie Prince in the third, innings that were played June 15.

Prince was back at it Wednesday, starting the fifth for the Panthers (3-15, 1-13) with a solo home run as part of a three-run inning that moved Panorama back in front, 6-4.

W-G took matters into their own hands in the bottom of the fifth, as Kendra Husmann led off with a solo home run. Maggi Mallon followed with a solo shot of her own, and, not to be outdone, Kaycee Major then launched a solo rocket. Dresback made it four consecutive dingers with a four-bagger of her own as a delirious Hawk dugout and somewhat incredulous crowd watched W-G move into an 8-6 lead.

Riley Jamison added a two-single later in the fifth, with Husmann knocking home a run as well. Major then crunched a three-run bomb — her second homer of the inning — to help swell the lead to 14-6.

The home run derby was not quite finished, as W-G sophomore Alissa Smeltzer added to the parade with a blast in the sixth. A Jamison RBI later in the frame ended the game via the 10-run rule.

Dresback and Smeltzer both homered for the first time in their prep careers, with senior Mallon (who had gone deep while playing for Ballard) smacking her first as a Hawk. Husmann’s shot was the fourth of her career, with Major now having four career home runs.

Panorama visits West Central Valley and W-G travels to Van Meter today. Both are WCAC varsity doubleheaders.

The Panthers will visit the Hawks Monday for the first round of postseason play, with the first pitch scheduled for 7 p.m.
