Bouton man allegedly assaults Bouton woman with knife, machete

Jeffrey Lee Hughes, 42, of Bouton was arrested Monday on charges of two counts of third or subsequent offense domestic abuse and fifth-degree criminal mischief and issued citations for driving while suspended and improper use of registration.

A Bouton man was arrested Monday on multiple charges, including harassment, child endangerment and resisting arrest.

Jeffrey Lee Hughes, 42, of  15668 Quinlan Ave., Bouton, was charged with two counts of third or subsequent offense domestic abuse and fifth-degree criminal mischief and issued citations for driving while suspended and improper use of registration.

The incident began about 7 p.m. Monday at a residence in the 15600 block of Quinlan Avenue in rural Bouton, where Dallas County Deputy Sheriffs responded to a report of a disturbance.

The deputy made contact with the victim, who told the deputy that Hughes allegedly “held a knife to her throat” and “without reason made a slicing motion with a knife near the victim’s throat,” according to court records.

The victim, who told the deputy that Hughes allegedly “grabbed a machete and lifted it in an aggressive motion towards the victim,” according to court records.

The victim had a video recording that showed Hughes allegedly “pulling out the machete, which clearly substantiated everything she was reporting,” according to court records.

Damage was also done to the victim’s vehicle, and the deputies concluded there was probable cause to believe Hughes “deflated the tire and covered the exhaust pipe,” according to court records..

Hughes fled the scene prior to the arrival of law enforcement. He was later apprehended driving a 2004 Acura TL.

Hughes is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $10,000 cash or surety bond, He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing July 18 in Dallas County District Court.

Hughes was convicted of domestic abuse assault in 2008 and twice in 2009 in Allegan County, Michigan, according to court records.
