BP reopens downtown convenience store, gas station in Perry

The former Circle K store at 1219 First Ave. reopened Friday and will begin selling BP brand gasoline next week, according to the new managers.

Gurdeep Singh and Charan Dhaliwal, who hail from the Punjab region of South Asia, said the convenience store is now open, but some of the stock has yet to arrive.

British Petroleum (BP) is a U.K.-based multinational corporation with roots in the 1909 founding of the Anglo-Persian Oil Co. It operates in about 80 countries worldwide, including trading in the U.S. under the Amoco and BP brands. In 2021 BP was the world’s fourth-largest investor-owned oil company by revenues, after ExxonMobil, Shell and TotalEnergies, according to Wikipedia.

The First Avenue Circle K store and its sister store at 1115 Iowa Highway 141 closed in August 2024. Circle K acquired the former Kum and Go stores in December 2018.
