
POMEROY, Iowa — A Pomeroy man is in custody after allegedly murdering his younger brother Saturday night in this rural Calhoun County town of 526.
Michael K. Hinners, 66, of 100 E. Maple St., Pomeroy, was charged with first-degree murder following an investigation by the Calhoun County Sheriff’s office and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.
The victim, Anthony B. Hinners, 59, of Pomeroy, was shot in the chest about 4:30 p.m. at 210 S. Ontario St. in Pomeroy, according to a statement issued by the Calhoun County Sheriff’s office Sunday.
The Pomeroy Police Department and Calhoun County EMS also responded to the incident.
Anthony Hinners’ remains were transported to the office of the Iowa State Medical Examiner.
Michael Hinners is held in the Carroll County Jail in advance of an initial appearance in Calhoun County District Court.
Another brother, Darren F. Hinners, 60, of Pomeroy was convicted of involuntary manslaughter in 2006 in Calhoun County District Court.
