VAN METER — Both ends of Thursday’s WCAC softball twin set between Panorama and Van Meter went to the latter, with the Bulldogs claiming wins of 8-5 and 12-5.
Trailing 3-0 in the opener, Panorama (0-5, 0-5) rallied to score a once in the top of the fourth and twice each in the fifth and sixth innings to grab 5-3 lead, only to see Van Meter (6-2, 4-1) plate five runs in the bottom of the sixth to steal the win.
Kellie Prince threw four frames for the Panthers. She walked two and allowed eight runs (only two of them earned) on seven hits, with Olivia Richey tossing two innings, walking two batters and striking out one.
Lydia Knapp was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and Maddie Knapp 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored for Panorama. Richey added a double and two RBIs, with Nicole Rolfes and Vallerie Storesund each hitting singles.
Prince, Rolfes and Shey Storesund each scored once for the Panthers.
Van Meter scored four times in the top of the third and four times in the fourth to break open a 3-3 game en route to winning the nightcap.
Richey yielded seven runs (six earned) on 10 hits and four walks while striking out three in five innings on the rubber. Prince pitched two frames, surrendering five runs (four earned) on five hits and a walk.
Prince drove in a run, stole a base and had a single and a double, with Shey Storesund stealing two bases and scoring once.
Both Knapp sisters, Hannah Woodworth, Ashley Clarke, Mathison Twigg and Vallerie Storesund also had hits for the Panthers.
Panorama will play Clarinda, Lewis Central and host Atlantic in tourney action today.
