A California man was arrested Wednesday after he allegedly assaulted a Huxley man in the Dallas County Jail.

Miguel Angel Caballero Jr., 27, of Salinas, California, was charged with assault causing bodily injury.

The incident began Oct. 9 about 10 a.m. in the Dallas County Jail, where Cabellero entered the cell of a fellow prisoner in the jail and allegedly “struck him several times in the face,” according to court records.

Jailers observed on the victim “two black/bruised eyes and a bloody nose,” according to court records.

Cabellero is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $16,000 cash or surety bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Oct. 28 in Dallas County District Court.

Cabellero was arrested Sept. 1 in Redfield on charges of controlled substance violation, first-offense possession of a controlled substance-methamphetamine, keeping premises or vehicle for controlled substance violation and failure to affix drug stamp. The case is pending in Dallas County District Court.

*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
