A high-speed collision left a car shattered into three pieces and debris scattered for about 100 feet along Iowa Highway 141 in Perry Monday morning.

One person was transported from the scene to the Dallas County Hospital by the Dallas County EMS.

The single-vehicle accident occurred shortly before 10:30 a.m. in the 1300 block of westbound Iowa Highway 141, when the car left the inside lane, crossed the outside lane and struck the traffic light pole on the north side of the intersection in front of the old Shopko store.

The vehicle appeared to be sheared in half by the pole, with a large section left lodged against the pole while the remainder of the vehicle hurtled westward along the ditch and broke up into further pieces.

The velocity of the vehicle upon impact with the signal pole appeared to be a factor in its break up.

The Iowa Department of Transportation was alerted to the damage to the pole.

The Perry Police Department is investigating the incident at this hour.

The Perry First Responders and the Perry Volunteer Fire Department also responded.
