The relay throw to Perry catcher Zach Roberts is a half-second too late to nail Carlisle's Nate Mortimer in the second inning at Progressive Field Monday. First baseman Blake Lansing is follows the play for the Bluejays.

Carlisle walloped an error-prone Perry squad at Progressive Field Monday, turning 10 hits and seven Bluejay errors into a 16-0 win in four innings.

The Wildcats (5-3, 2-1) claimed the Raccoon River Conference tilt by also drawing six walks while twice having batters hit with pitches while Nic McCay yielded only one hit in four frames on the hill for the guests.

Nate Mortimer’s double drove in a Carlisle run in the top of the first, but Perry starter Janier Puene recorded a strikeout and induced a ground out to avoid further damage.

Matt Rhodes led off the top of the second with a solo home run over the scoreboard in left for a 2-0 lead. A walk and two outs followed and it looked as if Puente would again escape the big inning, but a single and a hit loaded the bases, with Mortimer driving in a run with a hit while Jordan Pierce cleared the bases with a three-run double as the guests seized a 6-0 lead.

Blake Lansing doubled to open the Perry second, with Adan Medina reaching on an error, but McCay recorded three consecutive outs to keep the Jays off the scoreboard.

Three errors and two walks combined with a Mortimer RBI-single to send five runners across the plate in the Carlisle third, with Medina replacing Puente to finish the inning.

The guests added five more runs in the fourth to set up an early finish. Zach Roberts drew a walk to open the Perry fourth, but a double-play and a line out to left field ended the game.

Puente yielded 11 runs (six earned) on six hits and five walks in 2-1/3 innings. He struck out three and hit one batter. Medina recorded two outs but surrendered five runs (four earned) on three hits, a walk and a hit batsman. Kade VanKirk was the third and final pitcher for the hosts, allowing one run while retiring three of five batters to stop the onslaught.

Perry travels to Greene County tonight and Bondurant-Farrar Wednesday before hosting Ballard Thursday.
