The Perry Elementary School announced Friday its hiring of Chris Aggen as the new dean of students at the school.

With a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Southwest Minnesota State University and a master’s degree in educational leadership from the University of Sioux Falls, Aggen brings not only his academic accomplishments but an extensive background in teaching and as a secondary school principal to the job of supporting the teachers and elevating the educational experience for students and staff, said Perry Elementary School Principal Dr. Ryan Marzen.

“We are happy to welcome Chris Aggen to Perry Elementary School,” Marzen said. “His background as an educator and leader, coupled with his commitment to nurturing a positive learning environment, aligns perfectly with our mission. We look forward to his contributions in fostering high academic expectations and positive relationships.”

Aggen has also taught and coached at the high school and college levels.

As the dean of students at the Perry Elementary School, Aggen will play a pivotal role in advancing the school’s educational objectives, Marzen said. A dean is an integral figure in the educational landscape, responsible for overseeing the academic and administrative aspects of the institution. He said that deans collaborate closely with teachers, staff, parents and the broader community to ensure a comprehensive and enriching educational experience.

“I am extremely excited and grateful for this opportunity!” Aggen said Friday. “I look forward to learning from Dr. Marzen and the rest of the leadership in the school and the district. I also can’t wait to get kids in the building and start building those relationships!”

Perry people can meet Aggen at the Back to School Night Farmer’s Market event Aug. 17 from 4-7 p.m. in downtown Perry and get a free popsicle.
