The city of Perry will host its annual collection of household hazardous waste and used tires Saturday, July 20 from 9 a.m. until noon.

The city of Perry will host its annual collection of household hazardous waste Saturday, July 20 from 9 a.m. until noon in the parking lot of the Perry Pubic Safety building at 908 Willis Ave.

The following items will be accepted:

antifreeze
batteries (only rechargeable)
cleaners
fertilizers
fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs)
glues
gasoline and kerosene
motor oil (used)
oil filters (used)
oil-based paint
pesticides
poison
pool chemicals
varnishes
roofing tar
mercury thermometers
stains
vegetable oil
weed killers
windshield fluid

The following items will not be accepted:

ammunition
asbestos
electronics
explosives
fire extinguishers
latex paint
medications
propane tanks
radioactive materials

Residents will also be able to exchange old gas cans for new ones in the Legacy of Christopher Allsup Gas Can Exchange Event. Fifty gas cans will be given away — first come, first served and limited to one can per household.

The city also hosts its annual used tire collection Saturday, July 20 from 9 a.m. until noon at the Perry Recycle Center at 14325 Ivy Place.

There is no charge to residents to dispose of up to five car tires. A fee of $5 will be charged to dispose of each additional car tire.

The disposal cost for large truck tires will be $10 each, and tractor tires will be $20 each.

All tires must be removed from the rims.

Please note: The collection is for residential use only. Tires from businesses will not be accepted.
