Midge Vannatta of rural Rippey made a quick trip through the American songbook Wednesday morning as she provided the monthly entertainment to the Wednesday Fellowship group at the McCreary Community Building.
Vannata, 87, said she has been playing the piano for 80 years. She told the small but gratefeul audience a story of taking childhood piano lessons that she paid for each week with a quart of farm-fresh milk.
The 30-minute concert included at least 30 tunes, with the listeners often singing along or even clapping, as in “Deep in the Heart of Texas.”
Accompanying the veteran musician and generous in their applause were her daughter and son-in-law, Pat and Steve McPherson of Walker, Iowa.
