Clive man arrested for violating Sex Offender Registry rules

Joseph David Cackler, 20, of Clive was arrested Sunday on a charge of first-offense registration violation Sex Offender Registry.

A Clive man was arrested on a Dallas County warrant Sunday after allegedly failing to update his information on the Sex Offender Registry with his current whereabouts, phone number and employment.

Joseph David Cackler, 20, of 1600 N.W. 114th St., Clive, was charged with first-offense registration violation Sex Offender Registry.

According to court records, Cackler was registered on the Sex Offender Registry as living at 7655 Office Plaza in West Des Moines but “was kicked out of the address on Nov. 11, 2021.”

“According to witnesses,” Cackler “has stayed at two different hotels during the time since” and allegedly “has failed to update the registry with his new address,” according to court records.

Cackler “has also changed his cell phone number and employment without updating the registry,” according to court records.

A warrant for Cackler’s arrest was ordered Dec. 1 and served Dec. 19. He is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $1,000 cash or surety bond. Cackler is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Dec 30 in Dallas County District Court.

Cackler was convicted of assault with intent to commit sexual abuse in 2020 in Warren County District Court. He was convicted of third-degree sexual abuse in 2019 in Warren County District Court.
