Clouds part as Perry honors war dead on Memorial Day

About 30 people braved the rain-swollen clouds to attend the 2019 Memorial Day Program Monday morning in Violet Hill Cemetery in Perry, presented by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2060 in Perry.

But the weather cooperated, and the program began at 10 a.m. under partly sunny skies. VFW Post 2060 Chaplain Ron Leber led an invocation, and Commander Nathan Hoffman delivered a Memorial Day reading.

A roll call for the honored dead preceded a ceremonial gun salute and playing of Taps. Absent from the ranks since last Memorial Day’s muster were:
