EARLHAM — The Woodward-Granger girls did not score for nearly nine minutes to start Tuesday’s game, and were lucky to trail Earlham just 18-6 at the half. The host Cardinals slowly widened their lead after the break, leading to a 38-22 WCAC win.

Earlham (7-2, 5-2) used an 11-5 third quarter to generate a 29-11 advantage entering the final eight minutes, eventually leading by as much as 36-15 midway through the final frame en route to the victory.

Neither team was crisp from the floor or the foul line, where the hosts sank 5-of-12 free throws and the Hawks just 1-of-6.

Alyssa Bice led W-G with nine points, with Katelyn Scharlau adding five points. Baskets from Natalie Helbling, Mae Anderson, Kayley Dresback and Kaitlyn Peters accounted for the remainder of the Hawk scoring.

Earlham received nine points form Kelcie Hale, seven from Lizzie Arnburg and six from Katie Noah. Rachel Smith and Kaylee Hohertz tallied five points apiece, with Alli Boyle adding four points and Cameryn Caskey two.

W-G will now host a three-game home stretch, hosting AC/GC Friday, West Central Valley Tuesday and Des Moines Christian Jan. 12.
