PANORA — If the even-numbered quarters were the only ones played Tuesday, the Panorama boys basketball team would have defeated Des Moines Christian, 28-25. Unfortunately for the Panthers, a combined 34-10 deficit in the first and third frame was enough to create a 59-38 WCAC win for the Lions.
Panorama sank just 13-of-50 shots from the floor and hit only 5-of-10 at the free throw line. DMC hardly scorched the nets, but 22-of-64 shooting from the floor and 11-of-23 at the stripe was accurate and plentiful enough to salvage a victory.
The hosts fell into a 13-2 hole after the opening eight minutes of play, but remained in striking range after each team scored 13 second quarter points to set the halftime score at 26-15.
Any chance the Panthers had of climbing back into the game vanished when the Lions posted a 21-8 scoring edge in the third period as DMC’s advantage swelled to 47-23.
Luke South had 14 points and Jacob Merschman 11 for Panorama. Six points from Gracen Welberg, four from Zac Rizzutti and three from Mac Peasley accounted for the remainder fo the Panther offense.
Seth Juhl’s 18 points paced DMC, with Trey Johnson and Jackson Waring scoring eight points apiece.
Panorama host West Central Valley tonight. They will visit IKM-Manning Saturday and play after the conclusion of the 1 p.m. girls game.
