With life-threatening hot temperatures currently threatening the lives of central Iowans, the Dallas County Emergency Management Agency has made cooling centers available throughout the county for individuals seeking refuge from the weather conditions. The following facilities are designated as cooling centers:

Cooling centers are facilities where persons can temporarily go during periods of extreme temperatures to get out of dangerous weather conditions. Few to no services are provided beyond what is normally available in that building. The facilities are designated as cooling centers during their normal operational hours. It is advised to call ahead to check on open/closed status and for hours of operation.

Residents are encouraged to check on family members, friends and neighbors who might be at higher risk for injuries or illness, especially the elderly and those with specific medical conditions. Additionally, limit the time children and pets spend outdoors during extreme weather. For more information, visit the U.S. Department of Homeland Security website.
