ADEL, Iowa — With temperatures set to sore over the weekend, the Dallas County Emergency Management has activated its Extreme Temperature Plan, including cooling centers throughout the county for individuals seeking refuge from the extreme heat.

The cooling centers will be open from Saturday morning until Sunday evening for persons temporarily to escape the dangerous weather conditions.

Few or no services will be provided beyond what is normally available in the cooling-center buildings. The facilities are designated as cooling centers during their normal operational hours. It is advised to call ahead to check on open/closed status and for hours of operation.

Dallas County residents are encouraged to check on family members, friends and neighbors who might be at higher risk for injuries or illness, especially the elderly and those with specific medical conditions.

Additionally, limit the time children and pets spend outdoors during extreme weather.

In preparation for extreme weather, Dallas County residents are encouraged to be prepared, be safe, and stay informed. More information on best practices can be found at ready.gov.
