
Two Denver men were arrested Wednesday morning on U.S. Interstate 80 after an Iowa State Patrol Trooper allegedly found weapons and marijuana in their vehicle.
Jaime Enrique Chacon, 28, of 1080 El Paso Blvd., Denver, was charged with first-offense possession of a controlled substance-marijuana and aiding and abetting a felon in possession of a firearm.
Isaiah Ijayla Prince, 25, of 5505 Sable St., Denver, was charged with first-offense possession of a controlled substance-marijuana, felon in possession of a firearm, providing false identification information, fugitive from justice and failure to maintain safety belt.
The incident began about 9 a.m. on the eastbound U.S. Interstate 80 near the 102 mile marker, where an Iowa State Patrol Trooper initiated a traffic stop on a 2011 Chrysler 300, operated by Chacon.
Chacon allegedly “admitted there was marijuana inside of the vehicle in a bag,” according to court records.
When the trooper asked Chacon whether “there were any weapons in the car,” Chacon “said there was just a knife,” according to court records.
A search of the vehicle disclosed “a loaded black .38 special revolver, a black Taurus Judge, a loaded black 9mm Ruger and a loaded silver/green 9mm Ruger,” according to court records.
Prince, a passenger in the vehicle, allegedly “lied about his name and was found to be a wanted subject out of Colorado for robbery and is a felon,” according to court records.
Chacon allegedly told the trooper that “he didn’t know the front passenger’s name, despite admittedly being good friends with him for years,” according to court records.
Chacon was held in the Dallas County Jail on a $6,000 cash or surety bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing
Prince was held in the Dallas County Jail on a $5,000 cash or surety bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing April 21 in Dallas County District Court.
