A Des Moines man was arrested Friday night in Waukee after allegedly assaulting a Waukee man for no apparent reason.

Christopher James Pollard, 34, of 2350 E. 24th St., Des Moines, was charged with assault with intent to inflict serious injury, disorderly conduct-fighting or violent behavior, interference with official acts, fourth-degree criminal mischief and third or subsequent offense possession of a controlled substance-marijuana.

The incident began about 6:40 p.m. Friday at a residence in the 500 block of N.E. Venture Drive in Waukee, where officers of the Waukee Police Department responded to a report of a man who “was actively assaulting people and acting erratically,” according to court records.

Surveillance video of the incident appeared to show the victim standing alone in a parking lot when Pollard runs up and begins “to severely assault him without provocation,” according to court records.

In the video, Pollard “struck the victim several times before taking the victim to the ground and continuing to assault him,” and he only ceased assaulting the victim “when the victim produced a firearm in self-defense,” according to court records.

Pollard also “fought with officers and physically resisted officers’ efforts to place him in custody,” according to court records.

Pollard “was found to be under the influence of illegal drugs and medications at the time of the arrest and was acting very erratically,” according to court records.

Pollard is held in the Dallas County Jail in advance of an initial appearance in Dallas County District Court.

Pollard was convicted of interference with official acts in 2018 in Jasper County District Court. He was convicted of disorderly conduct in 2009 in Polk County District Court.
