If you’re going to indulge in alcohol on May 5, plan a sober driver or use a ride share service. That is the advice of the Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau (GTSB).
In 2022, 35% of Iowa’s fatal crashes involved an impaired driver. Cinco de Mayo is a day to enjoy Mexican culture with themed food and drink. In order to keep the public safe on the road, the GTSB is partnering with law enforcement to spread the message, “Designate Before You Celebrate.”
Also in 2023, 45% of Iowa’s traffic fatalities were unbelted. That translates to 123 lives. GTSB is also partnering with law enforcement across the state May 20-June 2, to remind people to “Click It, Don’t Risk It.”
We appreciate your commitment to traffic safety. If you do not have a contract with GTSB, your agency can still support the effort by encouraging your community to make safe driving a priority. Help us spread the message.
