WOODWARD — Des Moines Christian moved to 8-5 overall and 7-2 in West Central Conference girls play with a decisive 58-32 win over Woodward-Granger Friday.

The Hawks (5-8, 3-7) trailed just 15-11 after one frame but found themselves in deep danger after an 18-5 second quarter put the Lions ahead by a 33-16 margin at the intermission. The score stood at 41-27 after three frames, with the hosts limited to just five points in the remaining eight minutes as DMC pulled away for the 26-point win.

Only three W-G cagers entered the scorebook, with Mary Hansen providing 23 points, Riley Jamison seven and Kendra Husmann two.

Kailli Lawson had 12 points, seven rebounds, three steals and two blocks to lead the Lions. Beth Zimmer added 10 points and four assists and Olivia Penland nine points, with Emma Veenstra tallying eight points to go with nine rebounds and four assists.

W-G returns to action Friday with a visit to Van Meter. The Hawks will travel to State Center Saturday for a junior varsity/varsity girls-only set with West Marshall. The JV game is slated for a 4 p.m. start, with varsity to follow.
