One person was killed and two more were injured Monday morning in a head-on collision on U.S, Highway 30 and B Avenue in Boone County.

One person was killed and two injured in a head-on collision Monday morning on U.S. Highway 30 near Beaver, about five miles west of Ogden.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, a westbound vehicle crossed the center line shortly before 8 a.m. on U.S. Highway 30 and struck an eastbound vehicle head-on. The collision occurred near B Avenue in Boone County.

Sgt. Nathan Ludwig of the Iowa State Patrol said the driver of the eastbound vehicle was killed, and the passenger in the vehicle was transported with injuries to the Boone County Hospital.

The driver of the westbound vehicle was also taken with injuries to Boone County Hospital, Ludwig said.

U.S. Highway 30 was closed for several hours after the accident, which remains under investigation at this time, Ludwig said.

He said the name of the victim is being withheld pending notification of relatives.

The Iowa State Patrol, Boone County Sheriff, Boone County EMS and Greene County Sheriff responded to the accident.

“This is the eighth fatality of the year,” Ludwig said. “Last year at this time there were zero.”

There were 402 traffic fatalities in 2016, he said, a 25 percent increase on the 320 fatalities in 2015.
