PARKERSBURG, IA — Eleven Perry High School boys attended the Ed Thomas Leadership Academy Oct. 6. Named for the Hall of Fame coach who was shot dead by a disturbed student in 2010, the Leadership Academy is funded by the Ed Thomas Foundation.

Attending from Perry were Mark Campos, Reece Dunlap, Alexis Garrido, Luke Holtorf, Brandon Kenyon, Connor Kenyon, Kade Kilmer, Manasses Martinez, Alex Morales, Kaleb Olejniczak and Justin Stammer.

Those attending sold-out academy heard from a variety of speakers and attended several sessions focusing on leadership, being a good teammate, making proper choices, the dangers sometimes posed by social media and loyalty.

Connor Kenyon, Dunlap, Garrido, Kilmer, Olejniczak and Stammer attended Monday’s meeting of the Perry Community School District Board of Education to share some of the many things they learned and which they hope to put to use, as Garrido said “not just as Perry students but for the rest of our lives.”

The students said all who attended enjoyed the experience that all felt they had learned valuable lessons, wisdom they would be able to use not only in athletics but in their academic and personal lives as well.
