Perry Police Chief Eric Vaughn ended his watch Saturday after 27 years in the Perry Police Department. A retirement reception was held at the Carnegie Library and Museum in downtown Perry.
Vaughn joined the Perry Police Department in 1997, hired by then-Police Chief Dan Brickner. Vaughn was promoted to detective in August 1999 and assistant police chief in May 2004. He succeeded Brickner as chief in February 2014.
Vaughn is himself succeeded by Perry Police Chief Jim Archer, who has worked with Vaughn since 2000. Archer offered high praise for his “great boss and friend” in a Facebook post.
“I have had the honor of working alongside you for 24 years and have enjoyed it immensely,” Archer said. “You will be missed! Thank you for your 27 years of dedicated service to our community! Enjoy your retirement, brother!”
Vaughn was shot in the line of duty in May 2022 by a deranged Perry man, narrowly avoiding death or disabling injury.
