DES MOINES — The family of a Bellevue, Iowa, man murdered on Christmas Day 2016 is offering an additional $2,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of their loved one’s killer, according to a statement released Friday by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI).
James Remakel, 59, was stabbed to death Dec. 25, 2016, inside his home at 606 S. Riverview St. in Bellevue, an eastern Iowa town of 2,200. The Iowa State Medical Examiner ruled the death a homicide.
According to the Bellevue Police Department and the DCI, someone forced his way into Remakel’s home and an altercation ensued. Remakel, who was partially disabled from a stroke suffered previously, died as a result of “multiple sharp-edged entries,” according to the medical examiner’s report.
The Remakel family is joined by the Jackson County Crime Stoppers, the Bellevue Police Department and the Iowa DCI in seeking assistance from the public in solving this case.
The Remakel family’s reward is in addition to the $2,000 reward offered by the Jackson County Crime Stoppers for anonymous information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for the murder.
When someone calls Crime Stoppers, he or she is not asked to provide a name, and the person is not required to provide a statement to law enforcement or testify in court.
Anyone with any information related to the investigation is asked to call either the Jackson County Crime Stoppers’ hotline at 563-652-2212 or the Bellevue Police Department at 563-872-4545.
