Visiting DC-G turned a tie game after one quarter into a 14-point halftime lead en route to a 55-29 victory over host Perry in non-conference girls basketball Tuesday.
With the team tied at 9-all, DC-G launched a 17-3 run in the second quarter to post a 26-12 lead at the intermission. While the margin grew by only two points through the third quarter — which ended with a 38-22 edge for the guests — the damage had long been done, and a tired Jayette team was outplayed, 17-7, in the final quarter in suffering their first loss of the year against four wins.
DC-G used a deeper bench to substitute liberally throughout the game, wearing down a Perry squad that has been forced to rely almost entirely on a starting five, with Maddie West and Isabel Saemisch providing brief stretches off the bench.
Grace Marburger’s eight points paced Perry, with Jo Diw adding six points and Emma Olejniczak, Grace Stewart and Molly Lutmer five points apiece.
Jemma Borchers had 15 points to lead DC-G, with Mallory Vroegh adding 12 points and Rachel Lowary 10 toward the winning cause.
Perry travels to Carlisle for a Raccoon River Conference set Friday and to Norwalk Tuesday for non-conference play.
