The steel machine shed at 1846 B Ave. near Rippey was destroyed by fire Thursday afternoon.

A fire broke out this afternoon at 1846 B Ave. between Rippey and Berkley, destroying a 7,200-square-foot machine shed owned by Russel and Sharon Laub of rural Rippey.

Rippey Volunteer Fire Chief Pete Johnson was first on the scene. He said the structure “was fully engulfed when we got here.”

Mutual aid was received from the Jefferson, Grand Junction and Perry Fire Departments.

There were no injuries in the blaze, whose origin is still under investigation.

Sharon Laub said the men had been in the shed earlier in the day, preparing to mow, and were mowing when she noticed the fire.

The machine shed, shown prior to its destruction by fire, was built in 2010.
