The National Weather Service office in Des Moines has issued a flood watch for the Perry area from Saturday afternoon until Monday afternoon.
Excessive runoff might result in flash flooding of rivers, creeks, streams and other low-lying and flood-prone locations, the NWS said. Creeks and streams might rise out of their banks. Flooding might occur in poor drainage and urban areas, and low-water crossings might be flooded.
Several rounds of thunderstorms are expected this weekend. A band of heavy to very heavy rainfall might occur, especially Saturday night and again Sunday night. Some locations may have rainfall exceeding 5 inches.
Along with Dallas County, the flood watch comprises Hardin, Grundy, Black Hawk, Story, Marshall, Tama, Polk, Jasper, Poweshiek, Madison, Warren, Marion, Mahaska, Union, Clarke, Lucas, Monroe, Wapello, Ringgold, Decatur, Wayne, Appanoose and Davis counties.
Along with Perry, cities impacted by the flood watch include Dike, Newton, Osceola, Carlisle, Pella, Iowa Falls, Wellsburg, Ottumwa, Tama, Gladbrook, Leon, Toledo, Bloomfield, Chariton, Ackley, Waterloo, Marshalltown, Winterset, Lamoni, Norwalk, Dysart, Waukee, Grinnell, Corydon, Indianola, Ames, Conrad, Reinbeck, Creston, Allerton, Seymour, Humeston, Grundy Center, Knoxville, Traer, Adel, Mount Ayr, Eldora, Oskaloosa, Albia, Cedar Falls, Des Moines, Centerville and Earlham
