Flood watch issued Thursday to Saturday along Raccoon River

The National Weather Service office in Johnston has issued a flood watch for the Perry area until Saturday evening in the wake of recent heavy rains.

Flooding is possible along the North Raccoon River between Perry and Adel from Thursday afternoon to Saturday evening, the NWS said.

At 10:15 a.m. Tuesday the stage was 8.8 feet, and flood stage is reached at 15.0 feet. Flood stage might be reached Thursday afternoon.

At 15.0 feet, flood waters affect the wastewater treatment facility as well as agricultural land in the Perry area and the fairgrounds and golf course in the Adel area.

The area around Sportsman Club Road and Midland Trail near the intersections of U.S. Highway 169 and Iowa Highway 44 might also be affected, the NWS said.

Residents in these areas should remain alert to possible flooding.
