The fourth annual Walking School Bus begins Friday, Sept. 1 at 7:30 a.m. in front of Perry High School Performing Arts Center at 1200 18th St. Registration for the healthy alternative began at Monday’s Back to School Night and is ongoing.
Some personal rewards to the walkers, both students and volunteers, include exercise, meeting old friends and making new ones and having lots of fun. Starting this year, participants will also receive incentives each day they walk.
Walking School Bus volunteer Lois Hoger received $250 in a Thrivent Action Team Project grant to be used to purchase incentives, and all incentives are purchased locally and include some school and winter supplies.
The Walking School Bus runs every Friday from Sept. 1 until Oct. 17 and will also include one Wednesday, Oct. 4, when Perry bus walkers will participate in the National Walk To School Day.
Parents may sign up their children on Fridays before each walk or at school. For more information or to volunteer for more information, call Misty Von Behren at 515-201-9215.
