The Iowa Latino Hospitality Council will offer free training for the ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification on April 10-11 at the DMACC VanKirk Career Academy in Perry. The certification is essential for food safety in restaurants and various other industries and is required by law for at least one person per establishment.

“Providing this training in Spanish and at no cost is a significant benefit for area businesses,” said Giovanna Rodriguez, director of the Iowa Latino Hospitality Council. “Every restaurant needs at least one certified person on staff, and we’re proud to make it accessible to those who need it.”

Employers are encouraged to send staff members who are working in the kitchen but might not have the certification.

ServSafe certification is widely recognized across multiple industries, including restaurants, hospitals, casinos, and schools. With the closure of Tyson Foods in Perry last year, this training offers a new career pathway for those seeking employment in the food service sector.

“This is a great opportunity for individuals transitioning into a new industry,” said Eric Kress, executive director of the Central Iowa Workforce Development Board. “Having this certification makes job seekers more competitive in food service roles, which are in demand across many sectors.”

Spots for the training are limited, and interested individuals are encouraged to register as soon as possible. For more information or to sign up, contact the Iowa Latino Hospitality Council  at 515-444-9298 or gio.rodriguez@latinohospitality.org.
