Minburn American Legion Post 99 Vice Commander Don Richardson invited the Dallas County Board of Supervisors Tuesday to the ceremonial dedication of the Dallas County Freedom Rock Saturday at 10 a.m. in the Minburn Memorial Park on U.S. Highway 169 south of the depot.

Richardson said the event’s scheduled speakers include talk radio personage Simon Conway, Dallas County Veterans Affairs Director Nick Praska, Freedom Rock painter Ray “Bubba” Sorensen and local historian Joy Neal Kidney, niece of the five Wilson brothers depicted on the memorial rock.

“We’re praying for good weather,” Richardson told the supervisors. “In the Army, we used to say, ‘If it ain’t raining it ain’t training,’ but we don’t need rain on Saturday. We’ll be happy with a little sunshine and a calm breeze.”

A light breakfast will be served in the depot beginning at 9 a.m. The Dallas County Sheriff’s office will provide traffic control at the event, with handicapped-accessible parking available in the depot parking lot.

Richardson said seating for more than 100 people will be provided, but attendees are also encouraged to bring lawn chairs in case the crowd exceeds expectations.
