Hundreds of central Iowa animal lovers gathered Saturday at the annual Furball fundraising banquet at the Lake Panorama Resort in Panora.

“This year’s Furball was another big success,” said Kristine Jorgensen, president of Panora PETS, the Panora animal rescue group that sponsors the annual charity event. PETS stands for Protecting Even The Strays.

Thousands of dollars in merchandise and services are donated to the event’s live and silent auctions by businesses throughout Dallas, Guthrie, Greene and Polk counties. This year’s goods on auction included items ranging from overnight stays at resort hotels to theater tickets to jewelry and all types of animals products.

A social hour and dinner preceded the auctions.

PETS humanely assists the numerous stray and feral cats roaming the streets in Panora and greater Guthrie County and has become a safe haven for abused, orphaned and abandoned cats and kittens. For more information about PETS, visit their website.
