Gene Rollin Miller was born May 7, 1935, in Mount Ayr, Iowa, to June and Virgil Miller. He went to see Jesus with assistance of the angels on Oct. 4, 2022, at the Eden Acres campus of the Perry Lutheran Homes long-term care facility in Perry, Iowa, at age 87.
To honor Gene’s life, a Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, Oct. 15 at 11 a.m., with visitation beginning at 10 a.m., at the Carris Family Funeral Home and Cremation Care in Perry. Anyone who knew him is encouraged to come share with his family.
Gene was nurtured and assisted by his father and grandfather, John Lane, throughout his school years in all his participation in baseball, football and basketball. He lettered all four years during high school in Mount Ayr.
He attended Graceland College at Lamoni, Iowa, where he met his life mate, Wanda Fears. Later he completed his education by attending Grandview College and Drake University, where he participated in golf, basketball and football. He finished his degree in education from Drake.
After teaching and coaching girl sports for 26 years in Dallas and Boone counties, he moved on to working for President Homes and was very successful.
Faith was very important to Gene and Wanda’s life as they journeyed through the years ahead. They were both were very active in the Community of Christ Church.
Their first darling child, Michele Jolene, was born Sept. 13, 1968. Then John Delmont was born two years later. What a joy to have their own children to enjoy! They now have six grandchildren, Alec, Blair, Lane, Alexis (Jason), Ethen and Kal.
Retirement brought house building jobs where Gene and Wanda worked together to achieve success. They also enjoyed several years of trips throughout the world.
Gene and Wanda were married for 67 enjoyable years along with their leader as their Lord and Master. Life was made great!
