
A Georgia man was arrested Friday morning outside a De Soto convenience store after allegedly assaulting his female traveling companion inside their vehicle.
Robert Lewis Jones Jr., 32, of 2675 Jamestown Way, Decatur, Georgia, was charged with first-offense domestic abuse assault-bodily injury or mental illness, false imprisonment and third-degree harassment.
The incident began about 1:45 a.m. Friday in the 1200 block of Guthrie Street in De Soto, where officers of the De Soto Police Department responded to a 911 hang-up call.
The officers made contact with the victim, who told the officers that Jones allegedly did “strike her in her upper chest area” and “had bitten her right ring fingertip” and “put his hand around her neck,” according to court records.
The officers observed on the victim “visible scratch marks just above her sternum area” and “a cut on her fingertip which was bleeding,” according to court records.
The victim told the officers that she “attempted to leave the vehicle,” but Jones allegedly “physically kept her from leaving the vehicle, causing her to begin screaming for ‘help,'” according to court records.
The officers observed on the victim “minor abrasions and dirt marks on her lower left calf area from her trying to exit the vehicle,” according to court records.
For reasons unknown, Jones was later transported to the Dallas County Hospital. While being transported from the hospital to the Dallas County Jail shortly after 5 a.m., Jones allegedly sent “threatening text messages” to the victim from the back seat of the transport officer’s patrol vehicle, according to court records.
The text messages caused the victim “annoyance and harm” and made “her feel threatened,” according to court records.
Jones in held in the Dallas County Jail on a $5,000 cash or surety bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing April 17 in Dallas County District Court.
