Jenica Johnson, regional director of the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) for Mid-Iowa, will host a Business Model Canvas Thursday, July 31 at 5:30 p.m. at the Town/Craft Center, 1124 Willis Ave.

The Perry Chamber of Commerce launched a business development program in May called the Better My Business Workshop Series and Grant Competition. The program includes monthly sessions on various topics designed to help business owners grow their business and potential owners looking to start a business.

The July workshop will be a Business Model Canvas, held Thursday, July 31 at 5:30 p.m. at the Town/Craft Center, 1124 Willis Ave., and hosted by statewide resource partner Jenica Johnson, regional director of the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) for Mid-Iowa.

Writing a business plan can be daunting, but don’t let that hold you back from getting started. Johnson’s Business Model Canvas is a great tool for brainstorming and working through the fundamental elements of a business or product, which will help in communicating your idea, guiding your business decisions and ultimately writing a business plan.

If you’re thinking about starting a business or already have one but haven’t quite gotten around to writing a business plan, this is a great workshop to get you started by using the Business Model Canvas. Register online:

The workshop will be held at the Town/Craft Center upstairs meeting room and is free to attend. Online preregistration is requested. The SBDC center was established in 1982 and serves the Des Moines metro area and surrounding counties with one-on-one, no-fee, confidential counseling to businesses and would-be businesses in Dallas, Jasper, Marion, Polk and Warren counties.

The Better My Business Workshop Series will conclude in February with the Better My Business Battle, a “Shark Tank” type grant competition. For more information on the Better My Business program, contact the Perry Chamber of Commerce at perrychamber@perryia.org or 515-465-4601.

Lynsi Pasutti is the executive director of the Perry Chamber of Commerce.
