Carload after carload of hungry motorists were turned away near midday Tuesday after a grease fire broke out about 10:15 a.m. at the Burger King at 1319 Highway 141 in Perry and forced the temporary closure of the popular fast food restaurant.
“It started in the fryers,” said Shift Manager Tina Noring.
The Perry Volunteer Fire Department responded to the incident and quickly controlled the blaze, which caused extensive damage to the interior of the store.
There were no injuries in the blaze.
The Perry Police Department and Dallas County EMS also responded.
By about 4 p.m. customers were again having it their way, in part, because the store was again open but the menu was limited to “desserts, grilled chicken sandwiches, hot dogs and burgers,” according to a Burger King laborer.
“Our drive-through is open,” she said, “but we have no fried items. The lobby’s closed. It’s not safe enough yet for people to walk through.”
