
DALLAS CENTER, Iowa — A Grimes man died Monday morning after the vehicle he was driving was struck from the rear by a cement mixer truck, according to a statement released by the Dallas County Sheriff’s office.
Michael Remus, 69, of Grimes was traveling westbound in the 28000 block of Iowa Highway 44 east of Dallas Center about 9:45 a.m. when his vehicle was struck, according to the preliminary investigation by the Iowa State Patrol, which conducted a technical accident investigation.
First responders administered CPR to Remus and attempted to use an AED, but they could not revive him, and he died at the scene. Remus was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
Julie Remus, 65, of Grimes was a passenger in Remus’ vehicle. She was transported by Dallas County EMS to Methodist medical center in Des Moines with unknown injuries. Kodi Hoback, 32, of Grimes, the driver of the cement truck, was uninjured.
The Dallas County Sheriff’s office, Dallas County EMS and Dallas Center Volunteer Fire Department also responded. Iowa Highway 44 was closed for several hours for the ISP investigation.
