Katie Martinez of Redfield, left, and Hotel Pattee owner Tom Maxwell have parted ways after 18 months of Harvey's at the Hotel Pattee serving tasty dishes.

The tables are turning once again at the Hotel Pattee in Perry with the news that Harvey’s at the Hotel Pattee, which replaced the 20-year-old David’s Milwaukee Diner in November 2018, has itself been replaced.

“We are so blessed,” the hotel said Wednesday in a Facebook post, “to announce Angie Petersen, owner of Angie’s Tea Garden in Jefferson, will be working with us at the Pattee Cafe! Angie will serve her famous desserts, wonderful soups and delicious breads in addition to our new breakfast, lunch and dinner menus!!!”

The hotel closed March 17 when Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds issued her State of Public Health Disaster Emergency Proclamation, and it plans to reopen June 1, according to a Facebook announcement.

Katie Martinez of Redfield and her husband and business partner, Rick Martinez, took over operation of the Hotel Pattee’s dining room as well as the hotel’s event planning and catering services after the departure of Matthew Grimsley, the hotel’s chef since its March 2018 opening, when owner Tom Maxwell acquired the historic downtown Perry landmark.

Maxwell bought another Perry landmark, the restored U.S. Post Office, now called La Poste, in January 2019, and in March 2019 he replaced the hotel’s first general manager, Aaron Lenz of Perry, with former La Poste part-owner Jenny Eklund, who now runs the operations.

Petersen owned and operated Angie’s Tea Garden on the square in Jefferson for 20 years until flooding demolished the business in February 2019. A group of some 50 female investors in the Jefferson area organized in December 2019 to save both building and business.

Diners will have to wait and see what Petersen and Maxwell cook up for soups and desserts but if the quality is anything like that formerly found at the Jefferson tea garden, the wait will be worth it.
