Hawks blow past Panthers in WCC volleyball

PANORA — Class 2A No. 9 Woodward-Granger romped to a 3-0 victory against host Panorama in West Central Conference volleyball Tuesday.

Woodward-Granger (20-6, 6-0) posted a 25-17 win in the first set, then created the threat of a sweep with a 25-11 victory in the second set. A 25-5 romp in the third set sealed the match win for the Hawks and dropped Panorama to 2-16 overall and 0-6 in WCC play. W-G will compete today in the Jayette Invitational in Perry, which begins at 4:30 p.m.

While kill numbers were solid for the guests, it was deadly serving that provided much of the offensive fuel. W-G finished 68-of-72 behind the line, with an impressive 16 aces.

Bree Lesch was 21-of-21 with six aces, with Olivia McCune 17-18-5 and Mary Hansen 12-12-3. Kara Bodensteiner served 11-13-1 and Alyssa Bice 6-6-1, with Riley Kirton 1-of-2.

McCune had eight kills, Ashley Gales seven and Julie Pitman and Hansen five each, with Bice making three kills and Lesch two. Bice and Hansen distributed 11 assists apiece, with Lesch and Pitman both having two assists and Gales one while Pitman had both blocks recorded by the Hawks.

Bodensteiner’s 11 digs led the defense, with Pitman and Lesch making seven each. Bice and Hansen had four digs apiece, with Kaycee Major adding two and McCune and Gales one each.
