
GRANGER — It was expected many different players would have a chance to make an impact for Woodward-Granger Thursday, and the statistically likely scenario played out as the Hawks swept a struggling Woodward Academy, 15-0 and 15-1, in a pair of five-inning WCAC games.
W-G lifted their overall mark to 16-4 with the sweep, with the Hawk conference record rising to 14-3. Woodward Academy fell to 1-19, 0-17 with the losses.
Jay Dorenkamp struck out six and yielded two hits in picking up the win in the opener.
Reese Jamison had a double and three RBIs and Pacey Moats two singles and two RBIs for W-G. Joe Rhodes had a single a drove in a run, with Worth Henry providing three RBIs. The Hawks received 13 walks and stole 10 bases.
Roy Barker and Tristan Barbour each had singles for the Knights.
Trevor Simmons allowed a run on two hits and a walk in pitching two frames for W-G in the nightcap. Joe Rhodes joined Simmons in striking out three and issuing a walk while the former tossed two innings, with Justin Wheeler fanning one and walking one in a single inning of duty on the bump.
Jack Grell had a double and scored twice, with Moats hitting a double while Rhodes had a single, a double and two runs scored. Hunter Pifer had three singles, scored three times and drove in four runs, with Jamison adding two hits and stealing four bases.
Russell Smith had the lone hit for the Knights, with Donovin Sanders scoring the only run for the Academy, with Barker providing the RBI.
W-G hosts Ogden Monday and Madrid Tuesday before visiting Des Moines Christian Thursday for a varsity doubleheader. All four games are WCAC contests.
