Hawks soar past Eagles for lopsided Homecoming win

WOODWARD, IA —  The Woodward-Granger defense fell on three fumbles, returning one for a touchdown — while the Hawk offense compiled more than 430 yards for a 50-6 whipping of Eagle Grove Friday.

The Homecoming win lifted W-G to 2-2 overall and 1-0 in Class 1A District 2 play while the Eagles fell to 1-3, 0-1.

W-G led, 14-0, after one quarter and held a 30-6 lead the intermission. Plenty of reserves received valuable experience in the second half, with the hosts entering the final quarter holding a 44-6 advantage.

Quarterback Carter Moran was 16-of-22 passing for 156 yards and one touchdown.

Dane Polich caught the one scoring aerial — from six yards out — as part of his four snags for 36 yards. Brody Nardini (6-72), Max Dalton (2-20), Nick Rees (2-18), Dylan McCaulley (1-8) and Ethan Moats (1-2) all caught passes as well.

Dylan McCaulley scored twice, including from 57 yards away, as part of his 10-carry, 191 yard effort Oliver Potter (6-30, 1 TD), Moran (7-18, 1 TD), C.J. Petersen (1-6, 1 TD), and Brayden Simons (1-8) also ran the ball. Carries went to Ethan Dunleavey (1-17), Bryan Jesse (1-3), Holden Heard (1-1), Talan Tiernan (1-1) and Oscar Potter (2-0) as well.

Oliver Potter led the defense with 11 tackles and a fumble recovery. Simons picked up a fumble and ran it 20 yards into the end zone, with Kainen Schirman also falling on a fumble.

W-G is at South Hamilton Friday as district play continues.
