Hawks surge late to pull away from Bulldogs

GRANGER — A seven-run bottom of the sixth inning broke turned a 4-3 Woodward-Granger lead into an 11-3 margin of victory over visiting Ogden in WCAC baseball Monday.

Brody Nardini started for fifth-ranked W-G (9-3-1, 3-0-1) and was one of five Hawks to toe the rubber. He went 4-1/3 frames, during which he yielded two runs on three hits while walking two and striking out five.

Collin Nardini allowed a run on two walks, with Worth Henry tossing two-third of an inning, allowing a hit and a walk with two strikeouts. Alex Bice gained the win, hitting one batter and recording a single out, with the save going to Jay Dorenkamp, who fanned two in 1-1/3 innings of work.

Bryce Achenbach walked twice and scored twice, with Reese Jamison hitting two singles and walking once. Colby Tague had a double, Henry a double and a walk, Pacey Moats two single and Trevor Simmons a double and a walk while Dorenkamp added a hit.

Jack Grell had two hits and three RBIs, with Tague driving in three runs, with Jamison, Henry and Moats also sending runs home. Jamison and Moats both scored twice as well to help spark the attack.

Kolby Moorman had two singles and a walk from the lead-off spot for Ogden (6-3, 4-1), with Scott Westberg and Kaden Moorman providing hits as well.

W-G plays this afternoon against Madrid and Principal Park in Des Moines. They will host No. 7  Des Moines Christian Thursday for a key WCAC twinbill, with a visit to league foe Earlham on tap for Friday.
