In spite of the weather, Sunday’s Holiday Tour of Homes in Woodward gave visitors a privileged view of local decorating trends and hometown hospitality as five local homeowners hosted tours.
The lovely living room in Daryl and Marsha Charlet’s home at 506 S. Main included a lovely mantelpiece covered with ivy boughs above the fireplace and a twinkling Christmas tree with old-fashioned tinsel.
Daryl said he and Marsha have lived in the house since 1978 and raised their children in Woodward. He added the living room in 1989 and remodeled it again last spring.
As the ladies made their way to the upper rooms, Daryl served hot cocoa and scones with homey hospitality to visitors, including Woodward Public Library Director Myrna Griffith, was among the many visitors admiring the decorations and chatting with the hosts.
Griffith said the annual holiday home tours are always one of the Woodward Public Library’s most successful fundraising events. She said the proceeds support the library’s programming for children and adults.
Lon and Denise Seemann at 808 Cherry St. have occupied their snug abode two years, although Lon is a Woodward native.

The Seemanns added Christmas touches to the portrait gallery in their hallway. Pictures of their children and grandchildren were set off with sprigs of holly and folk-art snowmen. The 9-foot Christmas tree was topped with a pair of miniature snow skis.
As the ladies snacked on sugar cookies around the island countertop in the kitchen, Lon showed guests the finished basement, where the yuletide theme was also maintained with elegance.
Longtime friends and holiday tour regulars Jan Kaiser of Woodward and Cheri Finestead of Granger strolled in, still enthused from their previous home and ready for the Seemanns’ special treatment.
Friends since kindergarten, Kaiser and Finestead highly recommended the three other homes on the tour’s itinerary:
- 106 N. Second St.
- 804 Cedar St.
- 29001 130th St.
A silent auction capped off the event later in the evening at the Woodward Public Library although the beauty and hospitality did not end in Woodward. The Dallas Center chapter of Beta Sigma Phi also held a tour of holiday homes in a day of surplus pleasures for the Christmas spirited.
