Honors for Panorama footballers announced

PANORA — Postseason football honors were recently awarded to several members of the Panorama squad.

Earning Class 1A District 6 All-District First Team honors were offensive lineman Jeramy Randol (unanimous) and wide receiver Garrett Simmons, with defensive tackle Daniel Jensen and linebacker Gunnar Grunsted also named to the First Team.

Simmons had 22 receptions for 406 yards (18.5 ypc) and scored four touchdowns, while Randol was a key part of a line that helped produce 1,188 passing yards and 1,612 rushing yards.

Grunsted missed one game but still led the team with 49.5 total tackles. He had three tackles for a loss, a sack, a fumble recovery and two interceptions, one of which he returned for a touchdown.

Jensen had 27.5 stops, 11 of them for negative yardage, including 10 sacks. He fell on one fumble and recorded a safety.

Second Team selections included offensive lineman Justin Rolfes, quarterback Luke South and running back Brody Rickheim, with defensive tackle Dalton Bennett also a Second Team choice.

Rolfes’ play in the trenches helped the Panthers score 13 times through the air and 23 times on the ground. South was 80-155-8 for 1,182 yards and 13 scores while rushing 87 times for 237 yards and five TDs while Rickheim rushed 92 times for 572 yards and nine TDs while catching seven passes for 42 yards. Bennett had 15 tackles and a sack while playing a key role along the defensive front.

Honorable Mention status was earned by linebackers Victor Barroso (34 tackles, fumble recovery) and Trey Cobb (41.5 tackles, fumble recovery, interception) and defensive back Blaine Barber (19 tackles, three interceptions).

Nine Panthers were recognized for their success in the classroom. Players in grades 10-12 who have a 3.5 or better GPA receive All-Academic honors, and those honored included Barber, Cobb, Grunsted, Randol, Rolfes, Ethan Hupp, Aaron Irving, Alias Stahl and Grant Zajicek.

Panorama was 7-2 overall and 5-2 in D6 play, falling only to No. 3 Madrid and No. 5 Van Meter. The Panthers are coached by Lyle Alumbaugh.
