HUMBOLDT — Total domination on both sides of the line of scrimmage allowed Humboldt (4-5, 3-2) to overwhelm Perry (0-9, 0-5), 45-0, in the final game of the regular season for both teams Friday.
Humboldt rushed 54 times for 384 yards and four touchdowns while allowing Perry to gain just 26 yards on 23 carries.
Neither team did much through the air, with Wildcat quarterback Joey Busse 5-of-9 for 60 yards and one TD while Bluejay QB Kaleb Olejniczak was 3-of-15 for just 15 yards while being intercepted twice, one of which was returned for a touchdown.
Humboldt was turned away on their first drive deep into Perry territory but scored on their second trip when Tyler Vitzthum bulled over from seven yards away, with Vitzthum adding the two-point conversion run.
A short Jamison Heinz run and a Lucas Volf PAT kick pushed the score to 15-0 in the second quarter, with the halftime score established at 18-0 after Volf booted a 28-yard field goal.
Volf returned an interception off a deflected pass 25 yards for a TD with 9:36 to play in the third quarter. The PAT failed, but Volf was good on the PAT kick three minutes later when Matt Miller pulled in a 20-yard TD pass.
Perry went nowhere on offense in the game, with Cori Alamina forced to punt nine times. Humboldt finished with 23 first downs in the game, with Perry having only two first downs, both of which came because of face mask penalties.
The Wildcat offensive line created gaping holes in the second half, with the hosts gaining 140 yards on 17 carries in the third quarter and 81 yards on 13 rushes, largely with reserves, in the fourth quarter.
A continuous clock began with 10:29 remaining in the game after Vitzthum scored on a seven-yard run and Volf added the PAT. Sawyer Savery stepped untouched into the end zone from five yards out and Volf connected on a final PAT with 7:08 left in the season.
Defensive statistics were not available, but Justin Stammer had a fumble recovery for the Bluejays while Olejniczak made an official 16 tackles from his spot in the secondary.
Stammer ran 12 times for 15 yards, with Connor Kenyon (2-6), Xavier Craddock (1-3), Kato Dougan (1-2) and Olejniczak (7-0) ran the ball for Perry, with Jacob Nelson (1-6), Dougan (1-5) and Stammer (1-4) catching passes.
Miller (3-56, 1 TD) and Heinz (2-4) had the receptions for the hosts.
