Hypothermia, exposure claim life of Fort Dodge man

A Fort Dodge man died of hypothermia and exposure at Big Wall Lake on Thanksgiving.

WRIGHT COUNTY—A Fort Dodge man died after being pulled from Big Wall Lake in Wright County Nov. 24, state conservation officials said Monday.

The Wright County Conservation Board and the Wright County Sheriff’s office responded to a call around 4:30 p.m. of a man in distress at the game management area and found Kevin Simons, 55, face down in about 2.5 feet of water some 200 yards from shore.

Simons was pulled from the water, treated at the scene but later died at the hospital. Authorities believe Simons died from exposure and hypothermia.
